EUROMARFOR participates in French Maritime exercise "Olives Noires 10" | Print |

An European Maritime Force (EUROMARFOR) Task Group will be involved in the exercise “Olives Noires 10” that will take place in Mediterranean Sea, South of Toulon, from 03 to 17 of September.

 The Task Group is composed by the Portuguese frigate NRP Bartolomeu Dias, that will be the flag ship for the exercise, the minehunters FS Eridan and FS Lyre, from France, ITS Milazzo, from Italy and from Spain ESPS Tajo.

Captain José Mirones will be EUROMARFOR Task Group Commander (COMGRUEUROMARFOR) during “Olives Noires 10” exercise.

“Olives Noires” is a multinational mine warfare exercise organized by French Navy every two years. In this edition along with EUROMARFOR also a NATO Task Group will participate.

EUROMARFOR is a multinational initiative created in 1995 by France, Italy, Portugal and Spain that can be employed in humanitarian and rescue missions, peacekeeping missions and mission of combat forces in crisis management including peacemaking.
Portugal holds command of EUROMARFOR until September 2011, the current EUROMARFOR Commander is Vice-admiral José Carlos Saldanha Lopes, from the Portuguese Navy.
