In the early hours of 8 February 2016, Spanish warship, ESPS Tornado, drew up alongside US supply ship, USNS Joshua Humphreys, at sea to replenish fuel and essential supplies.
The sea swell did nothing to delay ESPS Tornado from what was her first replenishment at sea (RAS) since she returned to Operation Atalanta – the European Union’s counter-piracy operation off the coast of Somalia.
The RAS was conducted within an hour, with ESPS Tornado receiving enough fuel to enable her to remain at sea on patrol.
ESPS Tornado joined Operation Atalanta on Friday 4 February and will remain deployed off the coast of Somalia until 15 May.
