The European Maritime Force (EUROMARFOR) task group, composed by the Portuguese frigate “Corte-Real”, as flag-ship, and the Spanish frigate “Victoria”, will visit Casablanca, Morocco, from the 1st to the 3rd of July.
This port visit aims at the preparation of the “Multi-cooperative Exercise 2019” (MCE19) that will take place in Morocco from the 3rd to the 5th of July, focused on the multilateral cooperation between EUROMARFOR and the Royal Moroccan Navy.
Moored at Casablanca Naval Base, the ships participating in MCE19 exercise will conduct several training events, in the scope of maritime interdiction operations (embargo), search and rescue operations, diving, force protection against asymmetric and terrorist threats, medical assistance and damage control.
One of the highlights of this port visit is, undoubtedly, the EUROMARFOR reception on the 2nd of July, with the presence of several local authorities including the ambassadors of Portugal, Spain, France and Italy.
After the departure from Casablanca the sea phase of the exercise MCE19 will begin and the EUROMARFOR task group, under command of Captain Salvadode Figueiredo, from Portuguese Navy, will operate with the frigate “Tarik Ben Ziyad” of the Royal Moroccan Navy, conducting an operational training programme focused in Maritime Security Operations.
The Command of EUROMARFOR is held, since 19th September 2017, by the Portuguese Navy Fleet Commander, Vice-admiral Henrique Gouveia e Melo.
