On 13^th March, the Spanish Offshore Patrol Vessel Relámpago (OPV) relieves OPV Tornado in EUROMARFOR Task Group, within EU Naval Force, contributing to Operation Atalanta, carrying out counter-piracy patrols off the coast of Somalia.

EUROMARFOR has a new website.

The crew of Italian Frigate ITS Libeccio is heading for home after completing a four month deployment with the EU Naval Force, two of them under EUROMARFOR flag, off the coast of Somalia.

On Friday, 31 January 2014, the EUROMARFOR warship ITS Libeccio, in Somalia Operation Atalanta, assisted a Yemeni dhow that was adrift 100 nautical miles from the shore.

On 29 January 2014, international collaboration in the fight against piracy resulted in the transfer of five men by the EUROMARFOR flagship, FS Siroco, to the Republic of Seychelles, with the aim of prosecuting them for acts of piracy.

On Saturday 18 January 2014, the EUROMARFOR flagship, French warship FS Siroco in cooperation with Japanese assets released the crew of a Dhow that was suspected to have been used as pirate mother-ship. The flagship apprehended 5 suspected pirates believed to be responsible for an attack on an oil tanker in the Gulf of Aden a day earlier.

European Maritime Force (EUROMARFOR) was re-activated today, 6th December 2013, to contribute to Operation ATALANTA. During this deployment Rear Admiral Hervé BLJEAN, from French Navy, is the Commander of the EMF Task Group in addition to being the EUNAVFOR Force Commander(CTF 465). The French ship SIROCO is the command and control unit of the force. The other ships of the force are the Spanish offshore patrol vessel ESPS TORNADO and Italian frigate ITS LIBECCIO.

The Spanish Fleet Commander, Admiral Santiago Bolibar has assumed command of the European Maritime Force (EUROMARFOR) relieving the French Vice-admiral Philippe Coindreau. The ceremony took place on board the LHD "Juan Carlos I" in Rota Naval Base and was presided over by the Chief of Naval Staff Admiral General Jaime Munoz-Delgado.

On 6th August 2013, with the end of FHQ Portuguese command, it ends a cycle of 20 following months of the EMF activation in Op Atalanta.

The Flagship NRP Álvares Cabral hosted a meeting held between the members of the Somali Federal Government (SFG) and representatives of EU. On Wednesday 01 May EUROMARFOR Naval Force Portuguese Flagship NRP  Álvares Cabral provided medical assistance to a crew member of merchant vessel MV JS Colorado.

An European Maritime Force (EUROMARFOR) Task Group is involved in the "Spanish Minex-13", an advanced exercise Naval War Mine Action organized by the Spanish Navy off the coast of Cartagena and Alicante, from 16 to 26 April 2013.

Since 6th April the Portuguese ship NRP ÁLVARES CABRAL is joining OP ATALANTA, as  Flag Ship, with the mission to provide protection to World Food Program shipments to Somalia, as also to AMISOM, as well in deterring and disrupting acts of piracy and in contributing to the protection of vulnerable shipping within the Internationally Recommended Transit Corridor and the High Risk Area of Gulf of Aden and Somali Basin.

In Djibouti: In a ceremony held on 6th April 2013, on board Spanish warship ESPS Mendez Nunez, Spanish Rear Admiral Pedro García de Paredes handed over the command of the EUROMARFOR Task Group to Portuguese Commodore Jorge Novo Palma, embarked on the new EUROMARFOR flagship NRP  Álvares Cabral .

In a ceremony held on board EUROMARFOR flagship ITS San Giusto in the port of Djibouti, Rear Admiral Enrico Credendino (Italian Navy) handed over the force command of EUROMARFOR to Rear Admiral Pedro García de Paredes (Spanish Navy). The name of the new EUROMARFOR Flagship is ESPS Méndez Núñez.
