On Wednesday 10 February 2016, the Force Commander of Operation Atalanta and Commander of EUROMARFOR Task Group, Rear Admiral Stefano Barbieri, welcomed to ITS Carabiniere Captain Khyber Zaman, the Commanding Officer of PNS Saif.

On 3rd of February 2015, The EUROMARFOR Permanent Cell Representative Officer of Portugal was promoted to Capitão-de-mar-e-guerra (Navy Captain).

In the early hours of 8 February 2016, Spanish warship, ESPS Tornado, drew up alongside US supply ship, USNS Joshua Humphreys, at sea to replenish fuel and essential supplies.

On 6th February 2016, Spanish frigate, ESPS Victoria, completed her deployment with EU Naval Force after four months of counter-piracy operations in the Indian Ocean.

Beginning in the early hours of 5 February 2016, and in the waters beyond Seychelles’ main harbour, Operation Atalanta’s Italian flagship, ITS Carabiniere, conducted a joint exercise with French frigate FS Floreal.

Spanish warship, ESPS Victoria from EUROMARFOR TG, conducted a series of exercises with Japanese warship, JDS Suzunami, to strengthen counter-piracy cooperation between the two forces.

In order to maintain their high state of readiness, the Italian Navy divers from the Gruppo Operativo Subacqueo (GOS) who are currently embarked in Operation Atalanta’s flagship, ITS Carabiniere, carry out regular diving training.

During the recent port visit to Djibouti, Operation Atalanta warships ITS Carabiniere and FGS Erfurt carried out maritime training alongside their colleagues from the Djiboutian Navy.

On Sunday 17 January 2016, the Force Commander of the Chinese Escort Task Group 576, Rear Admiral Chen Qiangnan, was welcomed on board ITS Carabiniere by CGEMF Rear Admiral Barbieri.

On Tuesday 12 January 2016 Operation Atalanta’s Force Commander and EUROMARFOR Task Group Commander (CGEMF) visited the Spanish Maritime Patrol and Reconnaissance Aircraft (MPRA) Detachment based in Djibouti.

On Tuesday, 12 January 2016, Operation Atalanta’s Force Commander and also EUROMARFOR Task Group Commander (CGEMF), Rear Admiral Stefano Barbieri, visited the Djiboutian Coastguard and was welcomed by its Commander, Colonel Wais O. Bogoreh.

This week in the Gulf of Aden, Operation Atalanta’s flagship ITS Carabiniere and Spanish warship ESPS Victoria met with USNS Laramie and carried out a combined replenishment at sea (RAS).

On Thursday 7 January 2015, ITS Carabiniere and ESPS Victoria’s helicopter carried out a joint training exercise.

On Wednesday 6 January 2015, Operation Atalanta’s Force Commander, Rear Admiral Stefano Barbieri, met the Commander of the Japanese Escort Division 3 on board JDS Suzunami.

Italian marines on board Operation Atalanta’s flagship, ITS Carabiniere, spent the New Year period conducting training to help them maintain their high state of readiness.

On Saturday 2 January 2016, Operation Atalanta’s Force Commander, Rear Admiral Barbieri, visited the Lithuanian Maritime Protection team that is embarked on board the World Food Programme (WFP) vessel, MSM Douro.

While alongside in Djibouti, EU Naval Force frigate, ESPS Victoria, welcomed a Qatari Navy officer on board.

ESPS Victoria’s helicopter crew has handed over their duties to a new team during the Spanish warship’s port visit to Djibouti. The new team will fly ESPS Victoria’s SH-60B helicopter.

On Friday 25 December, sailors from EUROMARFOR flagship ITS Carabiniere, integrated in the EU Naval Force, welcomed local children on board to celebrate Christmas Mass during a visit to Madagascar.
