The Spanish Fleet Commander, Admiral Santiago Bolibar has assumed command of the European Maritime Force (EUROMARFOR) relieving the French Vice-admiral Philippe Coindreau. The ceremony took place on board the LHD "Juan Carlos I" in Rota Naval Base and was presided over by the Chief of Naval Staff Admiral General Jaime Munoz-Delgado.

On 6th August 2013, with the end of FHQ Portuguese command, it ends a cycle of 20 following months of the EMF activation in Op Atalanta.

On June 19th, EUROMARFOR Force Flagship NRP  Álvares Cabral received Portuguese Minister of Defence during her visit to Mozambique.

On Wednesday 01 May EUROMARFOR Naval Force Portuguese Flagship NRP  Álvares Cabral provided medical assistance to a crew member of merchant vessel MV JS Colorado.

An European Maritime Force (EUROMARFOR) Task Group is involved in the "Spanish Minex-13", an advanced exercise Naval War Mine Action organized by the Spanish Navy off the coast of Cartagena and Alicante, from 16 to 26 April 2013.

Since 6th April the Portuguese ship NRP ÁLVARES CABRAL is joining OP ATALANTA, as  Flag Ship, with the mission to provide protection to World Food Program shipments to Somalia, as also to AMISOM, as well in deterring and disrupting acts of piracy and in contributing to the protection of vulnerable shipping within the Internationally Recommended Transit Corridor and the High Risk Area of Gulf of Aden and Somali Basin.

In Djibouti: In a ceremony held on 6th April 2013, on board Spanish warship ESPS Mendez Nunez, Spanish Rear Admiral Pedro García de Paredes handed over the command of the EUROMARFOR Task Group to Portuguese Commodore Jorge Novo Palma, embarked on the new EUROMARFOR flagship NRP  Álvares Cabral .

In a ceremony held on board EUROMARFOR flagship ITS San Giusto in the port of Djibouti, Rear Admiral Enrico Credendino (Italian Navy) handed over the force command of EUROMARFOR to Rear Admiral Pedro García de Paredes (Spanish Navy). The name of the new EUROMARFOR Flagship is ESPS Méndez Núñez.

European Maritime Force (EUROMARFOR) Task Group is involved in the NATO exercise "NOBLE MARINER-12" that takes place in Mediterranean Sea, South of Toulon, from 24 September to 7 October 2012.

OPV Relampago (Offshore Patrol Vessel) is joining the Operation ATALANTA to fight against piracy off the coast of Somalia.

In Djibouti: In a ceremony held on Monday 6 August 2012, on board French warship FS Marne, French Rear Admiral Jean-Baptiste Dupuis handed over the command of the EUROMARFOR task group to Italian Rear Admiral Enrico Credendino, embarked on the new EUROMARFOR flagship ITS San Giusto. The ceremony was presided over by the EU Naval Force Deputy Commander, Rear Admiral Gualtiero Mattesi (Italian Navy), who is based at the Operation HQ in Northwood, London.

On Saturday 14th April, the Spanish warship ESPS Reina Sofia, who is now operating as part of the counter-piracy mission, Operation Atalanta, stopped a Yemeni dhow that was suspected of carrying armed Somali pirates.

Having taken over as the EUROMARFOR flagship on 7 April 2012, French warship FS Marne has already been very busy out at sea ensuring that the Task Force remains fully prepared for counter-piracy operations off Somalia.

In a ceremony held on April 7th, onboard Spanish warship ESPS Patino, and presided over by the EU Naval Force Deputy Commander Rear admiral Rainer Endres (German Navy), the French warship FS Marne became the new flagship of the EUROMARFOR, under the force command of Rear Admiral Jean-Baptiste Dupuis.

EUROMARFOR warship FS Aconit has tracked down and stopped a group of suspected pirates who were believed to have tried to attack a Hong-Kong flagged tanker approximately 400 nautical miles off the coast of Somalia.

NRP CORTE REAL has joinedto the EUROMARFOR counter piracy Task Group on 26th of March 2012.

Last 5th March, Spanish oiler PATIÑO (EUROMARFOR flagship) and Italian frigate GRECALE (NATO Group) conducted RAS operations.

ESPS INFANTA ELENA, a Descubierta class corvette, joins the EUROMARFOR Task Group in the operation ATALANTA.

The La Fayette Class Frigate, FS ACONIT has joined the EUROMARFOR counter piracy Task Group on 11 February 2012. FS ACONIT has been in operational service with the French Navy since 1999 and has a displacement of 3,600 tons.
